A federal jury convicted Kauai resident Raymond Nauta Reyes, 51, of three federal firearm and drug crimes Wednesday, the U.S. Attorney's office reported.
Kauai police discovered Reyes in possession of ammunition and an ounce of methamphetamine in October 2002 at Kikiaola Boat Harbor in Kekaha, Kauai. Police also recovered a loaded .38 caliber revolver from his car.
United States Attorney Ed Kubo said Reyes is not eligible for parole and faces a mandatory sentence of five years, and up to 40 years imprisonment for possession with intent to distribute a drug. He will receive another consecutive five years for possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking offense. Reyes could also receive a maximum ten years imprisonment for possessing a firearm following a previous conviction of domestic violence.
U.S. Circuit Judge A. Wallace Tashima, who presided over the trial, will sentence Reyes on September 12, 2005.
