UH acquires 442nd
chaplain’s papers
The letters and other documents of Hiro Higuchi, chaplain of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, have been acquired by the University of Hawaii Hamilton Library.
Higuchi's papers include official military correspondence; letters with families regarding casualties; his enlistment papers and service record; and lists documenting casualties and burials. The Higuchi collection also include letters between himself and his wife from August 1943 to November 1945; his activities at the U.S. Chaplain School at Harvard University's Camp Shelby, where the 442nd RCT trained; and the war front in Italy and France. He died in 1981.
