Island reflections

IN the midst of an illustrious career as a photographer, in which he's traveled the world over for such publications as the Asahi Shinbun and Readers Digest, George Yiu Fong Chan stopped in Hawaii in 1994 en route to a visit of Hong Kong, his homeland. What started as a day trip turned into a decision to call Honolulu home. Stunned by the beauty of Hawaii, Chan threw away his plane ticket and began exploring the island. Soon, full of inspiration, he picked up long forgotten paint brushes and began putting his impressions on canvas.

The results of 10 years of Chan's artistic reflections are on display at Borders Books at Ward Centre through the end of the month. Chan will be at Borders daily from 5 to 6 p.m. to talk about his work. Maybe he'll even share some tales of his travels.

Borders is open daily from 9 a.m. to midnight. Call the store at 591-8995.
