AYSO meeting in Hawaii

The American Youth Soccer Organization's national annual general meeting will be held at the Big Island's Hilton Waikoloa Hotel on Memorial Day weekend.

This is AYSO's first national annual general meeting in Hawaii in over 20 years.

"The last numbers I got from the national office indicated 600 people representing all the regions around the country were coming," said AYSO's Hawaii State Director Mark Stewart. "It probably will be the largest national meeting we've had for a long time, according to the national office."

The members will vote on new rules and regulations and conduct national board elections at the four-day meeting.

The national tournament, held every two years, is set for Chicago in 2006. Hawaii has put in a bid to host the 2008 event, according to Stewart.

Chela Gray ended her three-year career with the Western Washington Vikings (12-7-1) last fall by leading the team with nine goals and two assists for 20 points. The Iolani graduate scored 21 career goals.

This past season, the striker had four game-winning goals with three coming in consecutive matches in late October. Gray's shots-on-goal percentage (.512) on 21 of 41 shots was a team best.

The senior earned Great Northwest Conference Player of the Week honors once and was a first-team selection to the all-conference team.

Laura Wilson, a senior striker from Hilo, scored three goals, all game winners, for the 12-7-1 Marymount (Arlington, Va.) Saints.

During her career, Wilson played in 45 matches, scored 15 goals and had three assists.

Chandi Bickford was a big contributor to the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos' 13-6-2 season.

Bickford, a sophomore from King Kekaulike who plays defense and up top, had the second most points (16) on the team. She scored three goals and had a team-best 10 assists.

Breton Frazer started 17 matches for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineers (8-6-4). He logged 950 minutes, fourth best on the team, for the second-rated defense in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference.

MIT allowed just seven goals in nine league matches.

A sophomore defender from Kalaheo, Frazer directed three of her four shots on goal, but is still looking for her first score.

Sophomore Kristin Muramoto and freshman Rachel Clevenger saw considerable action for the 12-6-1 NCAA Division III Willamette University Bearcats.

Muramoto was in the goal for six matches and played eight others in the field. The Iolani graduate logged 312 minutes between the pipes, allowed seven goals and had a 2.02 goals against average.

Clevenger, a striker from Hilo, scored two goals and assisted on four others in 15 matches. She guided eight of her 17 shots at the nets.

Chris Faulkner, a freshman midfielder from Iolani, played in three matches for the 12-5-2 Washington University Bears in St. Louis. He scored on his only shot for the Division III school.
