Roosevelt eases
into semifinals
Brandy Clark and Marissa Young each scored four goals to lead Roosevelt to a 15-4 romp over fourth-seeded Baldwin in the quarterfinals of the Hawaii High School State Athletic Association Water Polo State Championship yesterday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
Roosevelt pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Baldwin 7-1.
The Rough Riders join fellow Oahu Interscholastic Association East member Kahuku in the semifinals. The Red Raiders took care of Kalani 11-4 despite sophomore Rebecca Fonoimoana not scoring a single goal. Fonoimoana averaged more than 3.5 points a game during the regular season to lead the OIA. Mika Bailey scored a team-high four goals for the second-seeded Red Raiders.
Kahuku will play No. 3 Hilo in the semifinals today at 5:45 p.m. The Vikings got six goals from Jennifer Salzman to beat Kapolei 16-5.
Roosevelt will play No. 1 Punahou in today's second semifinal after the Buffanblu pounded Hawaii Prep 11-1. Natale Rigg led the defending state champs with three goals, while Beth Knorek added two.
