The first round of the 2005 Hawaii High School Athletic Association State Tennis Championships got under way yesterday at the Central Oahu Regional Park.

The top 11 seeds in each division received byes through the first round and will start play today in the tournament's second round starting at 8:30 a.m.

Among yesterday's boys singles highlights, Lahainaluna's Michael Amorio came back from a set down to defeat Pearl City's Travis Damaso 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

In girls singles, Castle's Keri Bustamante charged back from a 1-6 loss in the first set to dominate Kealakehe's Kristin Tremain in the last two sets 6-1, 6-3.
