One of only two people to serve jail time for making illegal political donations to former Honolulu Mayor Jeremy Harris' campaign will also pay a $9,500 fine from the state Campaign Spending Commission.
The commission voted 3-0 yesterday to approve an agreement with Daniel Rosario, president and treasurer of Island Quality Hardware Supply. Rosario made false-name political donations to Harris' and former Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono's campaigns and exceeded state contribution limits to Harris' campaign, according to the agreement.
Rosario declined to comment on the agreement. Neither he nor his attorney was present at yesterday's proceeding.
Rosario spent 10 days in prison and paid a $200 fine after pleading guilty in Circuit Court in November to one count each of exceeding the state campaign contribution limit and of making political donations under a false name. He was also ordered to perform 100 hours of community service. Rosario can have the conviction erased from his record if he stays out of trouble for five years.
Architect John Adversalo received the same sentence after pleading guilty to two counts of making political donations under false names. He too was given the opportunity to clear his record after five years.
