First-round KO
disappoints sold-out crowd

Almost 8,000 people packed the Blaisdell Arena for Saturday's sold-out "Rumble on the Rock 7," but fans went home disappointed after Wesley "Cabbage" Correira got knocked out in the first round of his fight against David "Tank" Abbott.

Despite looking a little out of shape, Abbott dropped Correira with a devastating right cross after just one minute and 22 seconds and avenged his loss from two years ago.

"I'd like to clean up with another match with Kimo," he said afterward, referring to local boy Kimo Leopoldo. The fellow UFC veteran also fought on Saturday, tapping out Marcus Royster after almost getting disqualified for an illegal head butt.

Of the eight bouts during "Rumble on the Rock 7," I was most impressed by Oahu fighter Scott Junk. He had Ricco Rodriguez reeling before getting caught in a choke hold. And it was pretty cool to see Tito Ortiz in the crowd shaking hands and signing autographs. He told me that "it's a possibility" he'll return to Honolulu for a fight sometime soon.

Also spotted in the crowd: "Eh, You Da Kine Ah?" host Tony Solis, party promoter Rick Rock, Christian Yrizarry from Ho'onu'a, IMF Visions' Ian Fernandez, Fighters Corner co-owner Nolan Hong and Killawattz da Mongoose ...

TICKETS WENT on sale yesterday for "Take a Walk in the Country 3," set for June 11 at the Waikiki Shell.

Hosted by The Makaha Sons, the show will feature performances by Keali'i Reichel, Uncle Willie K and Fiji. And since this year's theme is "Together," expect on-stage pairings of some pretty big names, like Na Palapalai with Aunty Genoa Keawe, Ho'okena with Raiatea Helm and Na Kama with Hoku Zuttermeister. The Opihi Pickers and Kalaeloa also will perform.

Tickets range in price from $10 to $30; call 591-2211 ...

CONGRATS TO Lokelani McMichael, who just signed a deal with the Outdoor Channel to host "Adventures in Hawaii" on one of the network's HD stations ... After a short stint at the Fox and Hounds' new Waikiki location, Sick Dog Productions has moved its Wednesday night "Redda Fire" party to the Hard Rock Cafe ... And a heads-up for all you waxmasters -- this year's DMC Pacific Regional is set for June 24 at Indigo. Call 591-3500 to sign up ...
