4 Vulcans earn Pacific West Conference honors

Four from Hawaii-Hilo have earned All-Pacific West academic recognition.

To qualify for academic honors, student-athletes must carry a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average and be in their second year at the school.

Sarah Steele and Zoie Sevilla of the Vulcans softball team and Tiana Lum-Tucker and Jennifer Earle of the UHH tennis team are the school's academic honorees.

14-year-old Fujikawa takes Hickam tourney

Fourteen-year-old Tad Fujikawa, the youngest player in the field, defeated Shannon Tanoue on the first playoff hole to capture the 22nd annual Hickam 54-Hole Invitational golf tournament yesterday at the Mamala Bay course.

Fujikawa shot a final-round 2-under 70 to tie Tanoue at 3-over 219. Then, Fujikawa won it on the 466-yard, par-4 first hole with a birdie.

Ronald Ching (A Flight), Edmond Jones (B), Merv Matsumoto (Seniors) and Wendell Kop (Super Seniors) were the tournament's other winners.
