Tank Abbott delivered a blow that knocked out Cabbage Correira in the first round last night at the Blaisdell Arena.

Tank shreds Cabbage

Tank Abbott had a special present for his mom the night before Mother's Day, and it came in the form of a vicious right hand.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship legend knocked out Wesley "Cabbage" Correira 1 minute and 22 seconds into the first round of last night's main event at Rumble on the Rock 7.

The sellout crowd at Blaisdell Arena, unanimously in the corner of local boy Correira when the fight started, was stunned after Abbott left Correira in a heap in the ring.

Abbott threw a right hand that landed flush on the jaw of Correira. Tank paused before pouncing on Cabbage and landing three more shots. Cabbage's face contorted in pain as doctors rushed to his aid.

"That's for my mom right there," Abbott said moments after the fight. "But what I'm going to do right now is go have a cocktail."

Still breathing heavy from the fight, Abbott (9-10) already had his sights set on his next bout, turning his attention to another winner from last night, Kimo Leopoldo.

"Whenever they can put it together we'll fight," Abbott said on the prospect of fighting Kimo.

Leopoldo (9-4) defeated Marcus "Beyond Normal" Royster by tapout with 48 seconds left in the first round, but it came after an illegal head-butt that stopped the fight for 5 minutes. Leopoldo was docked a point.

"That wasn't too cool of me," Leopoldo said of the head-butt. "He could have taken the win, but he chose to fight. I had a hard time shooting in on him, I was coming from too far out. Instincts just took over."

Shaolin Riberio drilled a bloodied Tetsuji Kato last night. Riberio went on to win the match by tapout.

The last of the three super fights featured former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez, who after losing round one to local product Scott Junk, forced him to tap out with a chokehold 42 seconds into Round 2.

"I shot a couple of doubles in the first, and whoa, he was way too powerful," Rodriguez said.

Junk brought the arena to its feet as soon as the opening bell hit, deflecting a jumping knee by Rodriguez before throwing him straight down to the ground. Junk spent the majority of the round in control, but struggled to connect with any clean punches.

"He was way better than I thought," Rodriguez said. "I'd like to thank him for taking the fight."

In an earlier match last night, Hilo's Renato Verissimo became the first local fighter to win a mixed martial arts fight, defeating Yuichi Nakanishi by TKO after opening a cut above Nakanishi's eye that forced the ringside doctor to stop the fight.

Former UFC lightheavyweight and middleweight champion Tito "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" Ortiz was on hand last night and announced that he would like to fight Frank Shamrock in September, but no match was set. BJ Penn, who was also set to make an announcement regarding his next opponent, decided not to because the deal wasn't complete.

In other fights: Shaolin Riberio defeated Tetsuji Kato by tapout; Alan Goes forced Chris West to tap out 41 seconds into Round 1; Adam Rowland won by tapout 39 seconds into the first round against Thales Lourenco; and Jay Carter knocked out Josh Versola in the night's only kickboxing match.
