Police trail stolen pickup across isle, arrest driver

Honolulu police arrested the male driver of a stolen Ford Ranger pickup yesterday after following the car from Haleiwa to Kahala, police said.

At 4:36 p.m. police noticed a pickup fitting the description of a stolen vehicle at Ehukai Beach Park and began following the pickup. Police didn't say whether the pursuit was in a marked or unmarked car, but did say that it was not a chase.

Eventually the truck ran out of gas near Kalani High School and the driver fled on foot, but was apprehended and arrested.

Further details about the case were not available last night.
