Punahou solidifies
its No. 1 ranking

Punahou collected 10 of 11 first-place votes to remain atop the Honolulu Star-Bulletin Top 10 baseball poll.

The Buffanblu posted key wins over Maryknoll, Iolani and Saint Louis last week to move closer to the Interscholastic League of Honolulu title.

With four games left, Punahou can clinch the title and a state tournament berth with three wins.

Kauai entered the Top 10 for the first time this season after clinching the Kauai Interscholastic Federation crown.

The Red Raiders finished 11-1 in the KIF, splitting a doubleheader with Waimea on Saturday.

"That last loss was disappointing for the whole team," coach Hank Ibia said. "It could affect our chance at getting seeded (at the state tournament). The BIIF and MIL champs will have losses. If we'd gone 12-0, it might have helped."
