Rainbow Wahine going to water polo nationals

Fourth-ranked Hawaii earned an at-large berth to the upcoming National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The tournament starts May 13 and runs through the title game on May 15.
The Rainbow Wahine (20-9) are seeded fourth and face fifth-seeded Loyola Marymount (27-6) in the first round.
The top four seeds, including No. 1 UCLA (20-0), No. 2 USC (23-4), No. 3 Stanford, placed first through fourth in last weekend's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship tournament in Berkeley, Calif.

Rainbows' Costi is WAC Pitcher of Week

Hawaii's Justin Costi was named the Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week yesterday after throwing eight shutout innings against Nevada in an 8-0 victory Saturday night.
It's Costi's first career WAC award and fourth for a Rainbows hurler this year.
The junior right-hander allowed six hits and two walks and fanned four to earn his second win of the season.

Hamamoto in second place at WAC golf

Hawaii's Jarett Hamamoto shot an even-par 72 and is tied for second heading into today's second round of the Western Athletic Conference golf championships at Choudrant, La.
Hamamoto is one shot behind Tulsa's Sam Korbe.
Teammate Kellen-Floyd Asao is tied for 17th after shooting 78.
The Warriors are in ninth place at 29-over-par 317, 16 behind first-place Tulsa.

Hawaii's coed sailors qualify for nationals

Hawaii's coed sailors tied for first place with USC in last weekend's Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association Dinghy Championships in Long Beach, Calif.
Jennifer Warnock, Bryan Lake, Scott DeCurtis, Rebecca Marbady, Matthew Stine, Cassandra Harris and Shandy Buckley sailed for UH and totaled 112 points.
Hawaii moves on to defend its title June 8-10 at the Intercollegiate Sailing Association's Dinghy National Championships in San Diego.
The UH coed team will also be competing in the ICSA Team Race National Championships, June 5-7, in Austin Texas.

Aiea's Kanehira commits to Rainbow Wahine

Aiea High School soccer standout Tobi Kanehira signed a national letter of intent to play for Hawaii in the fall.
Kanehira is the seventh player to join coach Pinsoom Tenzing's recruiting class.
Kanehira helped lead Aiea to state semifinal appearances the last two years and to the Oahu Interscholastic Association championship in 2005.
As a senior, she scored 11 goals and earned Star-Bulletin All-State first-team honors.

Pampulov, Boleman gain PacWest tennis honors

Hawaii Pacific senior Matey Pampulov and junior Thomas Boleman made the All-Pacific West Conference tennis first team yesterday.
Pampulov, of Dornbirn, Austria, is ranked 10th in NCAA II. He finished the regular season 8-2 at the No. 1 singles' spot.
Boleman, of Trnava, Slovakia, went 8-2 in No. 2 singles.
As No. 1 doubles partners, Pampulov and Boleman went 10-2.

Baab makes PacWest golf second team

Hawaii Pacific freshman golfer Allan Baab of Kapaa earned All-Pacific West Conference second-team honors yesterday.
Baab tied for seventh in the PacWest Championships last weekend. He was the medalist in two of the three matches he competed in during the regular season and finished with an average score of 73.6.

Hawaii-Hilo golfers in seventh place

Hawaii-Hilo is in seventh place heading into today's second round of the NCAA II Men's West Super Regional golf tournament at Dakota Dunes, S.D.
The Vulcans are 34-over-par 322 and trail first-place Cal State Stanislaus by 10 shots.
UHH's Nick Mason is tied for 13th at 6-over 78 and teammate Garrett Okamura is tied for 16th at 7-over 79.
Andy Moren of Cal State Stanislaus is the individual leader at 1-over 73.
