» "Crash": Paul Haggis, who wrote the Oscar-winning "Million Dollar Baby," makes his directorial debut with a story inspired by a carjacking he and his wife experienced years ago. It's a tragicomic, multicharacter study of race relations in Los Angeles stemming from a car accident. The cast includes Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Jennifer Esposito, Ryan Phillippe, Brendan Fraser and Ludacris. (R)

» "House of Wax": Taking a cue from the original in 3-D back in 1953 starring Vincent Price, this refurbished house contains a group of stranded college students battling a pair of homicidal maniacs who intend to make them part of their gruesome collection of wax-covered corpses. Elisha Cuthbert, Chad Michael Murray and the one and only Paris Hilton star. (R)

» "Kingdom of Heaven": Ridley Scott's epic chronicles a chapter of the Crusades that has to do with a 12th-century blacksmith (Orlando Bloom) whose spiritual journey across the Middle East finds him defending Jerusalem from the massive Saracen army, all the while romancing a princess (Eva Green). Liam Neeson, Brendan Gleeson and Jeremy Irons round out the main cast. (R)
