Stores to provide beverage
container redemption
Beverage container redemption programs will start at four Foodland stores and a Sack 'n Save on Oahu next week, beginning with Ewa Beach.
Two Foodland stores on Maui also will offer redemption programs starting May 18.
The stores will give customers vouchers for cash or in-store payments in exchange for recyclable bottles or cans. The vouchers must be used within seven days.
On Oahu, redemptions can be made from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at five stores:
» Mondays at Foodland in Ewa Beach.
» Wednesdays at Sack 'n Save near Aloha Stadium.
» Thursdays at Foodland on Beretania Street and in Laie.
» Fridays at Foodland in Kaneohe.
Meanwhile, Maui's Pukalani Foodland will offer a redemption center Mondays starting May 18. Foodland in Kihei will accept recyclable items on Thursdays. Both programs will be offered from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
"We hope that providing convenient locations and an easy redemption process will encourage more consumers to recycle," said Jenai Wall, chairwoman and CEO of Foodland Super Market Ltd.
Redemption will be available both with reverse vending machines and bulk weighing.
