Remember Mom

Mother's Day is May 8 -- two Sundays away. Don't think you can wait until the last minute to make plans. Restaurant reservations, especially, need to be made well in advance. So get to it. Here's a guide:

Cooking Demo: Plan a special dinner for Mom at home. Sous Chef Brandon Hamada of Alan Wong's Pineapple Room demonstrates how to prepare several dishes for Mother's day, at noon at Macy's Ala Moana in the demonstration kitchen on the fourth floor. Diamond Head Market and Grill: Brunch-to-go for eight includes artichoke-roasted pepper quiche, pasta primavera with tomato cream, slow-roasted pork, crab remoulade baked salmon, curried Basmati rice, breakfast breads, fruits, sushi, salad and petit fours. Mother's Day Brunch Cruise: Treat Mom to a Champagne and Prime Rib Brunch Cruise, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and repeating May 8. The Star of Honolulu departs from Aloha Tower Marketplace, Pier 8. The brunch features an all-you-can-eat prime rib and local-style Hawaiian lunch buffet, champagne toast, special Mother's Day cake, cultural activities, a hula show and prize giveaways including cruises, rose bouquets and more. Ala Moana Hotel: Ale'a and Da Bruddahs perform at brunch and dinner. Brunch buffet features baked ham, seared monchong and breakfast specialties. Cost is $35, $19.50 children. Lanai & Augie Buffet Shows: Island 98.5 FM's morning show duo present a Mother's Day Show, with a choice of day or evening all-you-can-eat buffet seatings at the Radisson Prince Kuhio Hotel Waikiki. A brunch show runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The dinner show runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Highlights include music by Da Nuuanu Brothers and the comedy of Lanai and Augie. Moms in the audience will be eligible for prizes including a one-night stay in an ocean-view suite at the Radisson Prince Kuhio Hotel Waikiki. Beachside Café, Sheraton Moana Surfrider: Lunch buffet includes steamed snapper, seafood and clam medley, bouillabaisse, cheese blintzes and eggs Benedict. Cost is $34.50, $18 children. Dinner buffet features, crab legs, salmon and clams in curry sauce, linguine with Westphalian ham. Dinner buffet cost is $41.95, $21 children. Indigo Eurasian Bistro: Brunch includes dim sum and omelets; chilled items such as lemongrass-cured salmon gravlax, navel orange and carrot salad, crisp Blue Lake beans and steamed beets with feta. 'Ulalena matinee: More than 20 performers and musicians bring the story of the "birth of the islands" to life, complete with fish puppets, the unleashing of Pele's dramatic fury and the making of magical rain. Takes place May 8 at Maui Theatre. Doors open at 2 p.m.; the show starts at 3 p.m. There will be door prizes including round-trip mainland air fare, hotel stays, dinners and more.
