No. 2 USC edged No. 4 Hawaii 9-7, snapping the Rainbow Wahine's 14-game water polo winning streak yesterday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

Murray sets Rainbow Wahine discus record

Junior Novelle Murray set a new Hawaii track team record, throwing the discus 177 feet, 11 inches at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.

Murray, a two-time defending Western Athletic Conference champion, topped the previous Rainbow Wahine mark set by Joan Gago in 1983 by more than six feet.

Murray's toss was also the longest throw among WAC athletes this season. Earlier in the meet, she broke the school record in the hammer throw.

Hawaii Pacific drops Chaminade twice

Hawaii Pacific had 29 hits in two games in sweeping a softball doubleheader from Chaminade yesterday at Sea Warrior Field in Kaneohe.

Anuhea Young went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, and Brandi Peiler pitched a five-hitter for HPU in a 9-1 victory in the opener.

Anina Quaranto went 2-for-2 for the Silverswords.

In the second game, the Sea Warriors scored 14 runs in the second inning to take command of a 17-1 win. Nicole Kalakau led Hawaii Pacific on offense with a 3-for-3 performance, and Danielle Young hit a home run and drove in four runs. Clerisse Lemke tossed a two-hitter.
