Waikiki roads to close for
redevelopment project

Outrigger Enterprises will start work Monday on its $460 million Waikiki Beach Walk redevelopment project on Lewers Street, which will be under construction for 20 months.

"We realize the construction might cause some temporary inconveniences, but we and our neighbors agree that it will be well worth it once Waikiki Beach Walk is completed and open," said Mel Kanishige, Outrigger's senior vice president.

Planned road closures include:

» The section of Helumoa Road between Beach Walk and Lewers closed yesterday and will remain that way until May 7.

» Beach Walk between Helumoa and Kalia Road will close from May 9 to May 27. A bypass will provide an alternate route.

» Kalia between Beach Walk and Lewers will close from May 12 to May 27.
