Maui Divers will
splash down in
San Diego with
49th store
Maui Divers is preparing to open its 49th store, in San Diego on May 25. The new 500-foot retail space will be inside a
Hilo Hattie store in the Gaslamp district.
It is a familiar arrangement for the two local retailers, which share space at 11 locations in and out of Hawaii. The two combined forces in this way in 2002.
"Counting San Diego, we've opened five new stores within a two-month window," said Bob Taylor, chief executive of Maui Divers.
Cool development
A venerable Valley Isle favorite, Roselani Tropics Ice Cream, has hit the freezer cases at Safeway stores statewide.
"Our years of hard work and persistence have now come to fruition with our Safeway partners," said Cathy Nobriga Kim, vice president.
The development follows the introduction of large, bucket-sized containers of selected flavors of the company's frozen confection. It also follows a February fire that destroyed Ah Fook's Supermarket on Maui, one of Roselani's longest-term retailers.
Kim describes the new relationship as "a momentous occasion for us because Safeway is the first mainland-based supermarket chain that has given us the opportunity of serving their customers."
Roselani flavors available at the stores include haupia, Mango 'n Cream, Kona Mud Pie, macadamia nut and chocolate macadamia nut.
No five-stars spas
The first hotel and resort spa to receive a five-star rating from the Mobil Travel Guide is not in Hawaii.
The Spa Montage at Montage Resort in Laguna Beach, Calif., has won that honor in the "2005 America's Best Hotel and Resort Spas" as presented by Exxon Mobil Corp. No spa was awarded five stars last year, the guide's first year of ranking the category.
Hawaii's four-star spa winners were: SpaHalekulani at Halekulani; Spa Suites at the Kahala Mandarin Oriental; Hualalai Sports Club and Spa at the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai; Spa Grande at Grand Wailea Resort; and the Spa at Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea.
