Comments sought on Maui police

The public is invited to comment on the service and performance of the Maui Police Department as part of its accreditation process.

Accident on mo-ped breaks driver's leg

An 18-year-old man was taken to the Queen's Medical Center with a fractured leg after his 1999 Yamaha mo-ped collided with a 1991 Nissan Sentra driven by a 34-year-old man at about 12:34 a.m. yesterday in Waikiki.

The mo-ped was traveling south on Paki Avenue and the Nissan was traveling north when the accident occurred about 49 feet north of Poni Moi Road, police reported.

The driver of the car had no injuries, police said.

Teller recognizes forgery suspect

Police arrested a woman who allegedly tried to cash a forged check at a bank where she cashed a similar check more than two months ago.

Police said the suspect, a 35-year-old woman, cashed a forged check for more than $300 at the unnamed bank along Farrington Highway on Feb. 4.

On Thursday, the suspect returned to the same bank and tried to cash another check, but this time was recognized by a teller, police said.

Police arrested her for investigation of second-degree forgery.
