‘The Clinic’ kicks
off Slammers
A new bar opened this week on the outskirts of Waikiki, and kicks things off with a new weekly on Thursdays.
Check out Slammers Bar and Grill tonight for the inaugural edition of "The Clinic," starting at 9:30 p.m. Formerly known as the Kalakaua Sports Bar, the watering hole is about a block mauka of Galaxy Nightclub and a short distance from Daiei Kaheka.
There's no cover charge for the 21-and-over party, which features DJs MAD and R2D2 along with Jahson the 45 Revolver (who seems to be playing just about everywhere these days). Around midnight, Rob Hustle and Mike Device will step up to host an open mic session ...
AFTER A jaunt to Asia last month, funny guy Paul Ogata is back home and performing for local audiences once again.
He'll join mainland comedian Butch Bradley at the Blaisdell Center's Pikake Room, with shows Friday at 8 p.m. and at 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. I'm also told that Stan Egi will get on stage for a few minutes each night.
Don't want a lot of drama over finding parking and navigating through a big crowd? See Ogata on Friday, so you won't have to deal with thousands of fight fans at the Blaisdell for "Super Brawl 39: Destiny" on Saturday ...
PIPELINE CAFE goes with a reggae vibe tonight, following sold-out concerts by 3 Doors Down last night and Tuesday.
Hailing from the Virgin Islands, Dezarie headlines "A Tribute to the Lioness" with Ikhaba and band. The Ionz will open along with Kamau.
Prefer a more intimate setting in which to get your skank on? Head over to Don Ho's Island Grill tomorrow, where Dezarie will be joined by an all-female cast of up and coming reggae talent. Sahra Indio and Mama T will perform, with Queen Paula and the One Love Ohana Band also on hand.
Tonight's concert is 18-and-over, while tomorrow's is for those 21 and up; tickets are $22 at the door for both shows ...
AND IF that's not enough reggae for you, check out Kewalo Studio on Saturday for some choice cuts by talented local DJs. Of course, Jahson the 45 Revolver will be there, joined by DJs El Nino, Gonzales, Zacharaijah and Liloa. I'm also told there will be live music at some point during the evening ...
BACK AT Don Ho's on Saturday, the weekly "Roots Renaissance" party serves as a fund-raiser for Jacky Buder. The professional bodyboarder was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome after being hospitalized on Halloween last year.
Doors open at 9 p.m. on Saturday, with live music by John Feary, Kawao, One Drop, Hot Rain and Inoa'ole. Tickets are $15; call 358-4558 ...
