You don't have much time to practice, but if you can carry 185 pounds in each hand and walk a fair distance quickly, you'll be in shape for the Farmer's Walk event. Being able to pull a truck weighing no more than 10,000 pounds will also help in another event. Hey, it's only five tons. The adults who compete on April 17 will have to pull a truck weighing up to 30,000 pounds. Coordinator Malcolm Lutu said all the professional strong men will be there, including Phil Pfister, Odd Haugen and defending champ Jessie Marunde. Women are welcome to cheer on their favorite hunk. Winner of the men's competition gets $3,000. Hawaii's competition is a preliminary to the national strong man competition. Competition forms can be found at www.nastrongman.com, or call Lutu at 223-1925 for information. Teens should also contact Lutu ... |
