Sea Warriors split with Toros

Michael Kealoha went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs to lead the Hawaii Pacific baseball team to a 10-9 win over CS Dominguez Hills in the nightcap of a doubleheader yesterday in Carson, Calif. The Sea Warriors dropped the first game, 7-6, and are 20-11 for the season. The Toros fell to 15-18.

The Sea Warriors held off a rally leading 10-5 going into the bottom of the seventh, when the Toros were able to produce four runs before HPU reliever Josh Guerra came in and retired the last two batters to pick up the save.

In the first game, an HPU throwing error allowed the winning run to score as the Toros defeated the Sea Warriors in eight innings. Designated hitter Spencer Omalza led HPU, going 3-for-5 with two runs.

HPU allows two runs to lose in seventh

Holding a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, Hawaii Pacific's Clerisse Lemke gave up two runs on three hits and a walk as the Sea Warriors lost to Montana State Billings 2-1 at the 2005 Tournament of Champions yesterday in Modesto, Calif.

Brandi Peiler led the Sea Warriors, going 1-for-3 with an RBI double.

Later in the tournament, UH Hilo dropped a pair of games. Cal State Dominguez Hills beat the Vulcans 4-1 before Cal State San Bernardino shut them out 1-0.

Brigham Young-Hawaii finished the tournament with a 1-3 record after losing to Cal State Stanislaus and San Francisco State by identical 4-2 scores. The Seasiders will not play in the final day of the tournament because the school does not play on Sunday for religious reasons.

UH tennis falls at Utah

The University of Hawaii women's tennis team lost 7-0 at Utah yesterday to start its four-day road trip.

The Rainbow Wahine's lone win of the day came in doubles play, with Justine Boutet and Sylvia Jaros defeating Whitney Eber and Jen Wencel, 8-5. In singles action, UH's Lauren Fitzgerald suffered from flu-like symptoms and dropped her match to Utah freshman Emily Kwock, 6-4, 6-1.
