The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Barnwell jumps
Canadian oil and gas exploration company Barnwell Industries Inc. led the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin Index this week, gaining 14.9 percent to close at $54.45. The Honolulu-based company recently hit a 52-week high of $55.85 on Feb. 24.
Holding company Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc. followed with a 4.5 percent gain to close yesterday at $26.13. Next was local penny stock Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc., a nutritional supplement maker that closed yesterday at 1.2 cents, a 4.35 percent increase for the week.
