Short attention span eater: Real men have discovered the bacon-wrapped meatloaf ($7.75) at Grand Cafe in Chinatown, but they're also downing the Downtown Quiche ($6.25), a rich treat loaded with bacon, Maui onions, spinach, cheddar and Swiss cheeses, and, oh yeah, eggs.
Vampire types might note that First Friday brings a rare opportunity to dine at this casual day-only, comfort-food haven by night, about 6 to 9 p.m.
Dessert people might show up for a 4-inch-thick wedge of apple pie ... that is, if the early birds leave more than crumbs.
Place: 31 N. Pauahi St.
Hours: 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays to Fridays, and 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays
Prices: Less than $10 per person

I'm hitting the old Trappers in the Hyatt Waikiki on April 1 (see story on Page 24). Trappers was the hottest club in town, circa 1976 through '91. The Hawaii International Jazz Festival's Abe Weinstein is bringing back a "Night at Trappers" as Part II of the fest. Part I starts at 8 in the Hyatt Ballroom. Jimmy Borges and the Rich Crandall Trio will break loose about 9:30, inviting guest singers and musicians to step up and wail, too. Former manager Mai Tai Sing and a bunch of her gorgeous former Trapperettes, who used to serve drinks, have promised to show up. That's cool! ...

Just because Friday's April Fool's Day doesn't mean you have to stay the fool. Get a dose of cultcha at the monthly First Friday walking tour of downtown galleries and studios, 5 to 9 p.m.
No need to make a master plan. Just peek your head into the gallery to see if it interests you, or just head to the one with the most gawkers outside.
Continue on the art track by taking in a curator walk-through of the Yoshitomo Nara exhibition at The Contemporary Museum at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. It's free.
