"CABARET" GOES DOWNTOWN: Russell Tanoue, center, and Jane Loo welcomed "Cabaret" cast members Jimi V. Wheeler, second from left, John Tolentino and Ryan I. Sueoka to the Ocean Club as his monthly Piranha Room fund-raiser drew an overflow crowd on Saturday. The guys' recreation of "Cabaret" for the club audience was easily the dramatic and artistic highlight of the "Piranha Room Goes Burlesque" entertainment. Wheeler did a fine job as the sexually omnivorous emcee (Andrew Sakaguchi plays that roll at MVT); Tolentino and Sueoka reprised their roles as Kit Kat Klub chorus boys. Those rumors that have been "on the street" since opening night that "Cabaret" would be running for seven weeks at MVT have been confirmed. The show is now set to close on April 24.

CHECKING IN: Junior Mika, left, took time off from working on a compilation album to enjoy the Piranha Room and talk with Kayla Aguon and Jordan Segundo as they helped update Russell Tanoue's data base. Segundo leaves for Chicago next week to do a tsunami benefit concert with Jennifer Hudson, Jocelyn Enriquez and IBU. He says he wants to learn some conversational Tagalog before he performs or records in the Philippines.

PLENTY TO CELEBRATE: Diamond Head Theatre artistic director John Rampage, left, partied with Richard Aadland and Larry Paxton at the opening night pre-show reception for DHT's "The Fantasticks" March 25. Rampage is also director/choreographer of MVT's hit "Cabaret."

BEN'S IN THE HOUSE!: Eden-Lee Murray, center, director of "The Fantasticks," welcomed former Gov. Ben Cayetano and his wife Vicky to the reception. The Cayetanos attended as guests of American Savings Bank executive Ben Lee, senior vice president of commercial accounts. The bank a show sponsor.

"ONCE BEFORE WE GROW OLD...": Buz Tennent celebrated with Bebe Freitas, left, and her daughter, Roslyn Catracchia, during the opening night post-show cast party at Tavola Tavola for "The Fantasticks." Tennent, who stars as El Gallo, studied voice with Freitas. She is the pianist for the show and Catracchia is the musical director. It's the first time that mother and daughter have worked together in a musical.
