Childhood education has $241M impact

Early care and education is a $241 million industry in Hawaii and provides more than 9,400 jobs, according to a recent report by the Good Beginnings Alliance, 3Point Consulting and the National Economic Development and Law Center.

The report says early childhood education providers more revenues than motion pictures productions in the islands and the same amount of jobs as the construction industry.

Maui company plans new homes

A Maui developer has started sales on a planned 38-home development over looking the oceanfront of Wailea.

Pacific Land & Homes LLC says the homes in its Kanani Wailea project will range from 2,000 square feet to 2,350 square feet.

Tech companies to get $4 million

The Hawaii Technology Development Venture, a program of the Office of Naval Research, said it has selected 20 high-tech proposals to fund with $4 million, out of requests that totaled more than $33 million.

The initial round of funding is for concept development and demonstration of technologies and applied sciences related to both military and civilian applications. Winners include Hawaii Hydrogen Carriers LLC, NanoPoint, Oceantek Inc., Referentia Systems Inc. and Trex Enterprises Corp.
