Matsumoto’s gem
leads Kailua to victory
Star-Bulletin staff
Kevin Matsumoto fired a one-hitter, coming within one out of a perfect game, as Kailua defeated Castle 8-1 yesterday at the Surfriders field to improve to 2-0 in Oahu Interscholastic Association East action.
The game was a makeup from Saturday's rainout. Matsumoto, who struck out seven, was in the top of the sixth with two outs recorded when Castle's Ikaika Reppuhn cracked a solo homer over the fence in right-center.
