WAILUKU » Lanai High School's athletic director, David McHugh, said he has decided the new girls basketball team can continue the season, despite a setback with the suspension of nine of 11 players for drinking beer.
McHugh said last night that seven new players have joined two girls from the old team.
"I feel confident in the commitment of these kids," McHugh said.
Lanai police have been assigned to investigate the March 10-13 incident in which the nine players drank beer outside a gym at Mililani High School on Oahu where they were staying at night during a preseason tournament visit.
The team's two coaches were fired after the incident.
