HPU baseball sweeps Alderson-Broaddus

Matt Burson and Josh Guerra combined on a four-hitter and the Hawaii Pacific baseball team completed a sweep of its seven-game series with Alderson-Broaddus yesterday with a 4-1 win at Aloha Stadium.

Jherell Miller's two-run homer highlighted a four-run fourth for the Sea Warriors (19-8). Jerred Novotny's solo home run in the seventh accounted for the Battlers' lone run.

HPU swept Tuesday's doubleheader, 10-2 and 13-0.

Sea Warriors sweep in softball

Brandi Peiler doubled in Kara Wedemeyer with the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh to lead Hawaii Pacific to a 4-3 victory and a sweep of its Pacific West Conference softball doubleheader against Western New Mexico on Tuesday.

In the opener, the Sea Warriors (20-8, 5-3) topped the Mustangs (15-10, 1-3) 6-2. Nicole Kalakau's three-run homer in the bottom of the third gave HPU the lead for good.

» Chaminade dropped a nonconference softball doubleheader to San Diego by identical 6-2 scores at Central Oahu Regional Park on Tuesday.

The visiting Toreros impoved to 10-13 while the Silverswords fell to 8-19.

Wahine top Golden Bears in water polo

Freshman Monika Kruszona scored three goals to lead the fifth-ranked Hawaii water polo team to a 10-6 victory over No. 6 California yesterday at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

The Rainbow Wahine scored three goals in the second period, including Kruszona's goal as the horn sounded, to take the lead for good at 4-2.

Hawaii improves to 9-6 overall, 4-2 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Cal falls to 11-7 and 3-4.

The Rainbow Wahine host Pacific today and No. 3 Long Beach State tomorrow. Matches start at 4:30 p.m.

Rainbow Warriors sweep Xavier in tennis

Hawaii won three doubles and six singles matches yesterday to shut out Xavier in a men's dual at the UH Tennis Complex.

Dalibor Ptak, Bryon Weinberg, Ryan Sceats, Jarrod Diepraam, Chad Faulk and Derrick Lajola all won for UH. It was Sceats' 10th consecutive singles victory.

» Loyola Marymount defeated the Hawaii women's tennis team 5-2 yesterday at the UH Tennis Complex.

LMU swept three doubles matches and won four of six singles matches. Lauren Fitzgerald defeated Carla Arguelles 6-1, 6-0 and Kimberly Curtis beat Tamara Tanner 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-1) for UH's singles wins.

Kamehameha graduate Kimi Kaloi earned a point for LMU by defeating UH's Paige Mainor 6-1, 6-1.
