Spring bazaar
at Hongwanji

Spring is in the air, and so is the smell of local grinds, thanks to the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin, which is hosting its spring bazaar, "A Taste of Hongwanji," from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

A veritable buffet of edibles for purchase will satisfy all cravings. For starters, there will be favorites such as beef stew, rice bowls, fried noodle plate lunches, beef teriyaki and chicken bentos, hot dogs and hamburgers, chili, nachos, Okinawan turnip soup, and more.

This year, the bazaar also will feature selected items from its first bake-off. A compilation of all entry recipes for the baking contest will also be available for purchase at the bazaar.

In addition to edible treats, fair-goers will also find plants, produce, a hall full of gently used items, the temple's signature cookbooks, and a kids' activity corner featuring games and hands-on craft learning tutored by Temari-trained instructors.

The temple is at 1727 Pali Highway. Call 536-7044 for more information.
