Hawaii athletic director Herman Frazier said he is satisfied Hawaii's next football game at UNLV won't turn into Fight Night II in the stands at Sam Boyd Stadium.

UH announced a home-and-home series with the Rebels yesterday. UNLV will come to Aloha Stadium for a game Sept. 16, 2006, and the Warriors will play at Las Vegas on Sept. 15, 2007.

Brawls throughout the stadium during and after the game marred UH's last visit to UNLV on Sept. 19, 2003, and led to several arrests.

The Rebels won 33-22, but many of the 34,287 on hand (the third-largest home crowd in UNLV history) will remember the fights more than the game.

UNLV athletic director Mike Hamrick assured Frazier steps have been taken to improve security at the stadium.

"I personally flew to Las Vegas and met with the administration. We went over seating arrangements to help alleviate the problems we had last time," Frazier said.

Both programs see the series as an attractive matchup.

"Everyone wins when we play a home-and-home series with the University of Hawaii," Hamrick said. "It is an exciting trip for our fans and players to make while also producing big crowds here at Sam Boyd Stadium."

Said Frazier: "We all know about the Hawaii-Las Vegas connection. We are not only happy to have worked this out for our football program, but also our fans who love to make frequent trips to Las Vegas."

Hawaii leads the all-time series 10-6, but the Rebels have won the last three games.

"I've always thought they're a natural team for us to play," UH coach June Jones said. "There's a lot of history and people in Hawaii like to go to Vegas and people in Vegas like to come to Hawaii."

Hawaii also has 2006 nonconference games at Alabama (Sept. 6) and at home against Purdue (Nov. 25). The Warriors can schedule one more game to complete a 12-game schedule.

No tickets for Elvis: Every time there's an opening on Jones' coaching staff, the name of Jerry Glanville pops up. Jones said he has his sights set on three coaches as the potential replacement for Mike Cavanaugh, the offensive line coach who left for Oregon State -- and Glanville, a defensive expert, is not one of them.

"You can rule him out," Jones said of Glanville, whose staff Jones was on with the Houston Oilers and Atlanta Falcons.

Jones plans to spend some time at the NFL meetings on Maui this week, but said he will not be meeting with any of Cavanaugh's possible replacements.

Photo day: The UH football team will have a Fan Photo Day on April 16 at 10 a.m. at the UH soccer field, with selected players available for pictures and autographs.

There will also be giveaways, contests and information about football season tickets. Admission is free.
