Walk set for May 21

The Hawaii Hotel & Lodging Association will hold the 27th Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk on May 21.

The walk will be held simultaneously on Oahu, Maui, Kauai and the Big Island. It is the state's largest single-day fund-raiser, according to the sponsor.

While most of the event's proceeds will benefit social and civic community needs, this year's theme is "Mahalo to the Troops."

A significant contribution will be made to Hawaii's military to show appreciation for the military in Hawaii and their families, according to the association.

Last year, more than 11,009 walkers raised $960,400. The money went to more than 170 local charities.
