The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.


Cyanotech rises

Cyanotech Corp., a producer of nutritional products from microalgae, posted a 4.1 percent gain this week to lead nine other stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. The Big Island company closed yesterday at $1.28 to pare its loss for the year to 11.1 percent.

Barnwell Industries Inc., the index's top performer in 2004 and this year, lost some of its gain to finish at the bottom this week. Barnwell, which ended yesterday at $49.24, still leads local stocks in 2005 with a 32.8 percent increase. The company's stock rose 134.3 percent in 2004.
