wrestling quarterfinals
ST. LOUIS » Saint Louis School alum Travis Lee upheld his No. 1 seed at 133 pounds in the first day of the NCAA men's wrestling championships yesterday.
The Cornell All-American and former national champ (2003) beat UC Davis' Derek Moore by pin in 1:51 in his opening-round match, then had four takedowns in the first period in a 10-6 win over Virginia Tech's David Hoffman in round two.
Lee will face Boise State's Scott Jorgensen in the quarterfinal round today.
Oklahoma State advanced eight wrestlers to the quarterfinals for a 39 1/2 point lead in the team standings. The Cowboys are aiming for a third straight national title. Minnesota and Iowa State were second and third heading into today's action.
