Promoter has good start
with 3 Doors Down

Looks like promoter Nikki Robinson is off to a good start with her new company, Pau Hana Productions.

The former local rep for Goldenvoice struck out on her own after the Feb. 26 NOFX concert, signing rockers 3 Doors Down to an April 5 show at Pipeline Cafe. It was announced last week that tickets had sold out.

Fortunately, a second show has been added. Tickets for the April 6 concert are $25, with a limited number of $50 VIP passes also available. Call 877-750-4400 to order by phone ...

GOOD LUCK to local rockers The Crud, who were named finalists in an Oregon-based writing contest.

Up for grabs is $500 in free mastering services, which the band could use to help finish up its debut album, "Antidote." Help them out by voting in the contest online; visit www.thecrud.com for more info.

"Every little bit helps," said Ben Henry, the group's singer/ guitarist and a copy editor at the Star-Bulletin. "Getting the mastering done on this project for free will really make it easier for us to get this thing finished off" ...

AFTER A successful career in sumo and a short stint as a K-1 fighter, local boy Chad Rowan (a k a Akebono) is giving professional wrestling a try.

World Wrestling Entertainment announced the retired yokozuna will face off against the Big Show at "WrestleMania 21" next month in Los Angeles. The two first met when the WWE visited Japan in February, and the story goes that Rowan later challenged Show to a sumo-style match.

This isn't the first sumo match for the WWE -- former superstars Earthquake and Yokozuna met on "Monday Night Raw" in 1994, with Earthquake getting the win ...

THEY MIGHT be getting more mature with their music, but Sum 41 will still act like a bunch of teenagers if given the chance.

I spotted the guys in Waikiki last Monday, zipping along Kapahulu on rented mo-peds ... Good news for fans of Sick Dog's Wednesday night "Redda Fire" party. It's back on this week in Waikiki at Discovery Bay, as Snappers changes its name to Fox and Hounds for the second time ... And once again, thank you to all the loyal readers of the Star-Bulletin and this column. Four years ago we packed up our stuff and moved to a new home at Restaurant Row. Mahalo plenty for supporting us and keeping Honolulu a two-newspaper town ...
