Maryknoll shoots up 2 spots
to No. 3 in S-B poll
The Spartans are charging up the chart with a bullet, while the hard-luck Lady Cougars are off the radar.
Maryknoll racked up three lopsided wins at the Lady Tiger Challenge last week to zoom two spots up to No. 3 in today's Star-Bulletin Girls Basketball Top 10. Maryknoll posted wins over Waimea, Lahainaluna and Baldwin.
The Spartans (9-1) have lost only to top-ranked Punahou.
Punahou, which won the Lady Mustang Classic, is now 9-1. The Buffanblu garnered 13 of 15 first-place votes. They have a bye until the Interscholastic League of Honolulu season opens in early April.
Konawaena, which swept through its tournament over the weekend, improved to 6-1 and collected the remaining two first-place votes to remain at No. 2.
After Maryknoll, Kahuku, Kalaheo, Iolani, Kamehameha, Honokaa and Kamehameha-Hawaii occupy the next six slots. Hilo, which won the First Hawaiian Bank Lady Menehunes Peek Tournament, debuted in the poll at No. 10.
The Lady Vikings (8-1), replaced Kaiser. The Lady Cougars won their opener at the Lady Tiger Challenge against Kamehameha II 57-42. However, they lost 46-42 in double overtime to Kamehameha. On Saturday, with center Kilioe Aliifua away on a trip, Kaiser lost to Lahainaluna 45-43 in overtime on a last-second shot from just inside half court.
