UH students
join ‘Superman’

Ronson Akina, Chrystal Jameson, Matthew Ortiz and Nelson Quan will be the University of Hawaii-Manoa's Academy for Creative Media exclusive production interns this summer on the "Superman" set in Sydney, Australia, where academy chairman Chris Lee is on leave to executive produce the movie. The students will earn college credit as well as get a unique opportunity to work on a major film production. Kudos to The Roy and Hilda Takeyama Foundation for supporting the internship program with a $10,000 donation to help defray the students' summer tuition and living expenses in Sydney, and to Hawaiian Air for round-trip flights ...

ABC's "official" announcement of its fall season lineup of shows is March 17. "Lost," of course, will return, and the series finishes season one filming here in mid-April. Filming for season two will begin here, hopefully, in mid-July.

Barry Jossen, the network's senior VP of production, says state tax and other financial incentives for "Lost" has never been "a make-or-break issue" for whether the show will stay in Hawaii or not. That's news to some ABC production execs, who were adamant last month about the importance of the incentives. "It's damage control," a show source says.

Now with the cancellation of "North Shore," "Lost" producers can thin the ranks of the mainland crew in favor of locals that would save the studio hundreds of thousands of dollars a month in expenses ...

"North Shore," alumnus Jason Momoa has joined the Sci-Fi Channel's "Stargate Atlantis" as a regular for season two in the role of Ronon Dex, a man from the planet Atteria ...

"Lost" star Maggie Grace will be in the remake of John Carpenter's classic horror thriller "The Fog" for Revolution ...

Microsoft has hired game maker Hironobu Sakaguchi ("Final Fantasy") to help the development of its Xbox role-playing video games. Sakaguchi's "Final Fantasy" was produced in Honolulu ...

That was producer Bill Fay ("The Shaggy Dog," "Godzilla") huddling with Hawaii film commissioner Donne Dawson at the movie's wrap party at the Ihilani Resort & Spa, discussing plans to bring a multimillion-dollar film production to Hawaii to shoot "a historical film" about the state ...
