Seasiders play first golf match

The Brigham Young-Hawaii's newly formed golf team played the first match in its history yesterday.

Mark Neider made it a match to remember for the Seasiders, taking individual honors with a 74 at the Makaha Valley Resort Course.

Hawaii Pacific won the team title with a 312, followed by Brigham Young-Hawaii in second with a 327 and Chaminade in third with a 427.

The same three schools will compete in another match next Monday at Mililani.

» The 12th annual Guinea Kop Memorial Golf Tournament is March 24 at Pearl Country Club.

The event, a benefit for the Oahu Junior Golf Association, begins with a 12:20 p.m. shotgun start.

Registration and lunch starts at 10:30 a.m.

» Walter A. Dods Jr. has been named the honorary chairperson for the First Hawaiian Bank REHAB Golf Challenge, which takes place May 25 at the Hawaii Prince Golf Club.

Donald G. Horner is the official tournament chair.

The tournament, which benefits the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific, begins at noon with a shotgun start. For entry forms or for more information, call the REHAB Foundation at 566-3451.

Brigham Young-Hawaii rolls past Chaminade

The top-ranked Brigham Young-Hawaii women's tennis team easily defeated Chaminade 9-0 yesterday in Laie.

The victory extended the Seasiders' NCAA Division II record winning streak to 107.

Adrienn Hegedus, Tetyana Bula, Petra Teller, Gurianna Korinihona, Crystal Schwenke and Natalie Roberts were each part of one doubles win and one singles win.

Foundation seeks scholarship applicants

The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation is inviting Hawaii's scholar-athletes to apply for 2005-06 college scholarships.

Application forms are available at www.dukefoundation.org and the deadline to apply is March 15.

Candidates must be a Hawaii resident, attend college, participate in a competitive sport and demonstrate the need for financial aid.

ODKF awarded $35,750 in scholarships in 2004-05. A winner of six Olympic medals, Kahanamoku is known as a "father of international surfing" and is considered one of Hawaii's greatest athletes.
