Iran's classical music

The Grammy-nominated Masters of Persian Music from Tehran, Iran, will perform at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow and Wednesday at the University of Hawaii's Orvis Auditorium in a concert sponsored by the East-West Center Arts Program and the UH Music Department.

Tickets are $20; $15 for students, seniors and military. Call 944-7177.

Spring begins for HIFF

The eighth annual Hawaii International Spring Film Festival begins April 1, featuring more than 20 films, including documentaries, shorts and animation. Film titles will be available in mid-March on HIFF's Web site, www.hiff.org.

Films will be shown at the Dole Cannery Stadium 18 Theatres April 1-8, with tickets going on sale March 24 for HIFF members and March 28 for the general public.

Tickets are $8; $7 for students, seniors, children and military; $6 for HIFF members. They will be available at the Dole Cannery box office. Call 528-HIFF (4433) or 528-FILM (3456), or visit www.hiff.org.

Find nature's numbers

The Bishop Museum will host several workshops in conjunction with its newest exhibit, "Nature's Numbers."

The workshops will explain patterns in nature, promising to make math and science fun by highlighting often overlooked intricacies of science.

Damien Memorial School geometry teacher Jon Bromberg will teach visitors the math foundation and significance of the Sierpinski Pyramid, a mathematical masterpiece created by his geometry students.

Sessions will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 9 and 30 at the Castle Memorial Building.

Admission is $7.95 for kamaaina, $6.95 for children and seniors. Call 847-3511.

PIC offers scholarship

Pacific Islanders in Communications is offering scholarships of up to $5,000 to students pursuing college degrees in media and/or communications.

PIC's goal is to increase the presence and voice of Pacific Islanders in media.

Applicants must be at least 18 and pursuing certificates or degrees in media and/or communications from accredited two- or four-year schools, colleges, universities or other qualified institutions and programs. Individuals of Pacific Island ancestry are encouraged to apply, although the organization does not discriminate.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents or nationals of the United States or its territories; demonstrate academic proficiency or have experience in media or communications; and show commitment to the Pacific Island community.
