Chez Sovan Express, the Cambodian fast-food haven in Restaurant Row, celebrated its first anniversary last week with the introduction of a new dish, "ply treay." It's a keeper. To English speakers, that's a delish grilled salmon topped with green mango salsa with a splash of fish sauce. The green mango gives it a natural acidity without the usual touch of citrus. The dogs are consuming the wooden fence, so it's time for a chain link fence. I've been walking the 'hood, eyeballing the neighbors' fences, and turns out the ubiquitous chain link is quite a clever design; sturdy, simple and inexpensive. Cuff estimates of erecting a 40-foot fence is about $300, and probably less. I picked up two connected sections of premade 5-by-5 "drive gates" at Home Depot for $92. The trick is erecting vertical poles, which have to be dug down about 18 to 24 inches and solidified with Quikcrete. From there, everything else is like playing with giant Tinkertoys. Can it be done in a weekend? Depends on how rocky the yard is ...
