WAILUKU » A Maui man barred temporarily from a large part of the Kaanapali resort under a state nuisance abatement law is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on a charge of second-degree promotion of a detrimental drug.
Jason Reardon allegedly distributed drugs on the beach fronting Whalers Village in Kaanapali.
Maui Circuit Judge Joseph Cardoza has barred Reardon from returning to the area of the alleged drug distribution activity until a court hearing on March 9.
The action is the first filed by the state attorney general to seek a broad geographical area under the nuisance abatement law.
State First Deputy Attorney General Lisa Ginoza said the state expects the action will bring some relief to the Kaanapali community and its residents and visitors.
The injunction against Reardon was the third Maui drug nuisance abatement action.
Ginoza encouraged the public to report their observations regarding suspected drug houses and illegal drug activity to police or contact the attorney general's Drug Nuisance Abatement Unit on Oahu, 586-1328, or toll-free for the neighbor islands, 800-966-6384.
