Baldwin stuck in
‘third’ gear
Longtime Baldwin fans may feel slighted a bit by a No. 3 seeding in the state boys basketball tournament.
They may be a little more annoyed to learn that the Star-Bulletin Top 10 panel followed suit. Though Punahou and Baldwin were idle last week, voters gave Punahou more votes to break the stalemate at No. 2. The high ranking, of course, doesn't help the Buffanblu. After finishing second in the Interscholastic League of Honolulu, Punahou begins the states with the rest of the unseeded squads, while Maui Interscholastic League champion Baldwin gets a bye.
Iolani collected all 19 first-place ballots to remain on top of the mountain.
Kahuku remained at No. 4 after winning the OIA title. The Red Raiders go into the states seeded second.
Campbell and Kamehameha remained locked at the fifth and sixth spots. Konawaena, however, leaped over Kauai into the No. 7 spot. The Wildcats won the BIIF title over the weekend, while Kauai was idle.
Kalaheo stayed at No. 9, followed by Kaimuki, which returned to the poll at No. 10.
