Blanche Pope Elementary School students were treated to the sound of a police car blaring its siren yesterday as part of career-day activities. The school was also visited by employees from the Fire Department and emergency medical services.

A vehicle rammed a utility pole and cut it in half yesterday after 11 a.m. at South Beretania Street and University Avenue. Traffic was blocked for hours while crews repaired the pole. Police said the driver was taken to the Queen's Medical Center with minor injuries.

Sarah Santiesteban, 27, working for the Chiropractic Wellness Team at the Blaisdell Center, got her finger pricked yesterday by phlebotomist Perla Valdez of the Hawaii Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Santiesteban will be screened as a bone marrow donor.
