The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Barnwell rises
Barnwell Industries Inc. continued running away from the field as it gained 9.7 percent this week to lead the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index.
The oil and gas exploration company, which also has Big Island real estate holdings, has risen for five straight weeks and is up 36.2 percent for the year after climbing 134.3 percent last year. Barnwell, which closed yesterday at $50.51, is up more than 91 percent since declaring a 2-for-1 stock split on Dec. 6.
Maui Land & Pineapple Co. had the second-best gain at 8.4 percent.
