Court approves new Aloha pacts

Aloha Airlines received approval from federal Bankruptcy Court yesterday to initiate new contracts from recently ratified agreements with three of its five labor groups.

The airline, which wants to cut annual expenses by $60 million, said the contracts with its pilots, flight attendants and clerical workers cover 2,900 of its 3,300-member union work force.

Each of the airline's employee groups, including its nonunionized work force, will accept a 10 percent wage concession for 2005 and 2006 as part of the company's plan to cut $40 million a year off labor expenses, Aloha said.

The airline also said it has reached tentative agreements with the unions representing the mechanics and dispatchers.
