LOVE NOTES

Return of Valentino

Valentine's Day doesn't have to end today. Kailua Public Library will present "Valentino for Valentine's Day," a classic film program featuring legendary 1920s screen idol Rudolph Valentino at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Hosted by Steven Fredrick, film historian and collector of rare movies, this free 45-minute program is suitable for ages 12 to adult and will be held under the Reading Tree.

Seventy-nine years after his death, the name Valentino still conjures up images of a handsome desert sheik, riding his white horse across the Arabian sands, searching for the woman of his desire.

In addition to films featuring Valentino, there will be a selection of silent movies from the 1920s starring Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks and the Keystone Kops.

The program is co-sponsored by the Friends of Kailua Library. The library is at 239 Kuulei Road. Call 266-9911.

Mood music

Harpist Louise Trotter will perform a program of swing, Latin, country and Broadway music on the pedal harp during "Harp and Soul: A Valentine's Tribute to the Great Romances."

Trotter, from Texas, will perform original arrangements of a wide array of songs, from "The Beautiful Blue Danube" to a medley of Elvis hits.

The concert will take place at Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church, 5339 Kalanianaole Highway, at 7:30 p.m. today.

A $5 donation is suggested. Call Rebecca Smith at 947-4088.
