The Bloomberg / Star-Bulletin Index is a price-weighted index designed to measure the performance of Hawaii-based companies. The index was developed with a base value of 100 as of December 31, 1999. A chart of the index which shows the weekly performance of its members is published weekly in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin.
Barnwell surges again
Barnwell Industries Inc. continued to defy gravity as it gained 4.6 percent to rise for the fourth week in a row and post the second-best performance among 10 stocks in the Bloomberg Honolulu Star-Bulletin index. Shares of the company, which is involved in oil, natural gas and real estate, hit an all-time, split-adjusted high of $47.25 on Thursday before closing the week at $46.03.
Mera Pharmaceuticals Inc., whose stock listing is in jeopardy because the company's financial report failed to include required Securities and Exchange Commission certification, topped local stocks with a 7.7 percent gain to 1.4 cents.
