Punahou, Kapolei top
2 softball seeds
Interscholastic League of Honolulu softball champion Punahou is the No. 1 seed for the Data House State Softball Division I Championships this week.
The Buffanblu (14-0) earned the top spot over defending state champion and two-time Oahu Interscholastic Association titlist Kapolei (12-4).
Both teams received a first-round bye, along with No. 3 seed Baldwin (12-1), the Maui Interscholastic League champion and No. 4 seed Waiakea (8-2), the Big Island winner.
All games through Saturday's 8 p.m. final will be played at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium on the University of Hawaii campus.
OIA runner-up Mililani (12-3) plays Lahainaluna (11-2) in one of four first-round games Wednesday.
Hilo (4-6) takes on Pearl City (12-3), Kauai (11-1) meets Kaimuki (8-8), and Kailua (14-1) plays Moanalua (8-6) in other first-round contests Wednesday.
All four seeded teams swing into action Thursday.
In Division II, four teams play in the semifinals Friday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
Waipahu (13-3) tangles with Kamehameha-Maui (6-7) at 2 p.m., and St. Francis (8-6) meets Konawaena (8-2) at 4 p.m.
The Division II finals are slated for Saturday at 6 p.m.
