Baseball individual tickets on sale todayIndividual tickets for University of Hawaii baseball games go on sale today with prices ranging from $3 for students ages 4-18 and UH students to $7 for seats in orange and blue sections.Tickets are available at the Stan Sheriff Center, Rainbowtique at Ward Centre, Aloha Stadium, UH Campus Center and Windward Community College's OCET Office. Tickets are also available online at www.hawaiiathletics.com or by calling 944-BOWS. UH opens its season against Alabama on Thursday. There will be a promotion where season-ticket holders for baseball, football, volleyball or basketball may purchase two tickets for the price of one at the Stan Sheriff Center box office.
Warriors tennis team snaps losing streakThe UH men's tennis team ended its five-match losing streak by shutting out Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne 7-0 yesterday at the UH Tennis Complex. The Warriors improved to 2-5 with the win.Hawaii's Yasuo Sakurai stepped in at the No. 6 singles spot and won his first match of the season, defeating IPFW's Daniel Jackson 6-1, 6-3. Derrick Lajola -- who easily won his No. 5 singles match , 6-1, 6-1 over Sam Rocke -- teamed up with Jamie Migia in the No. 3 doubles spot for their first-ever win as a team to complete a sweep of the doubles matches. Hawaii next faces off against No. 53 Oklahoma in Las Vegas on Feb. 19. » The UH women's tennis team was defeated 7-0 by No. 17 California yesterday morning, but later bounced back to pick up its first win of the season by defeating visiting IPFW 6-1 in the afternoon at the UH tennis complex. The nationally ranked Golden Bears swept the singles and doubles matches. Against IPFW, the Wahine only dropped one singles match to IPFW.
Vulcans drops baseball doubleheaderThe Kansas Jayhawks (3-0) defeated Hilo (0-8) 7-6 in the first game of a doubleheader and then shut out the Vulcans 6-0 in the second game.After Kansas jumped out to an early 5-0 lead at the end of the third, Hilo rallied back to tie it up with a big fourth inning, scoring five runs on five hits, but stranding three runners. Kansas went ahead 6-5 in the sixth and added another run in the top of the seventh. Hilo came up short and was only able to bring home one more runner. David Chu led the Vulcans on offense, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. » At Keehi Lagoon, Hawaii Pacific swept a doubleheader from Longwood. In the opener, HPU scored six runs in the sixth inning en route to a 9-2 victory. Pierce Maglallan went the distance for the Sea Warriors and finished with a three-hitter in seven innings. Greg Benoit keyed the Hawaii Pacific offense with three RBIs, while Grandon Costa chipped in with two hits. In the second game, former Pearl City standout Tony Ganigan pitched a complete-game six-hitter for the Sea Warriors (3-1) in a 6-3 victory. He struck out five. Offensively, HPU got two hits each from Tyler Jefferson and Chase Nakamura. Nakamura also drove in two runs. Longwood dropped to 1-3.
